Pre and Post Care Instructions
Pre Care
-
Lips must not be dry at your appointment. If they are dry or cracked, the appointment must be rescheduled and the deposit is forfeited.
-
Exfoliate 3 days prior using a gentle lip scrub (or honey + brown sugar) to remove dead skin.
-
Moisturize daily for the full week before your appointment. Aquaphor is recommended.
-
Cold sore risk: lip tattooing can trigger outbreaks.
-
If you've ever had a cold sore, you must take a prescribed antiviral before and after your appointment.
-
Even if you’ve never had one, we recommend taking L-Lysine for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after to reduce risk.
-
-
Appointment must be rescheduled if you have a cold sore, active breakout, scratch, or acne around the lips.
Aftercare (First 14 Days)
-
Expect lips to feel swollen, tight, and dry immediately after.
-
Apply ointment multiple times a day for 14 days to prevent cracking and pigment loss.
-
Apply ointment using a clean Q-tip, never fingers, to avoid infection.
-
Once tenderness fades, some flaking and peeling is normal.
-
Do not pick at peeling — this can pull out pigment and cause patchiness.
-
Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and direct water pressure until fully healed.
-
Once healed, apply SPF daily to maintain colour.
-
Avoid using glycolic, hydroxy, or fruit acid products on or around the lips.
-
You may resume wearing lipstick after the healing period.
-
Avoid oily, salty, acidic foods, and alcohol during initial healing.
What to Expect After your Appointment
-
Lips go through 3 healing stages: too dark → too light → just right.
-
Full healing takes about 30 days; colour will continue adjusting during this time.
-
Redness, swelling, tenderness, and dryness are normal and temporary.
-
Some clients may require a touch-up due to individual factors like scarring, sun damage, or fillers.
-
If you have a history of cold sores, fever blisters, or chickenpox, antiviral medication is essential.
